Make Room for Possibility
Often we are so filled with too many “things” and these “things” take so much space in our minds that we don’t make space for possibilities. Keep in mind you need to be open to possibilities, sometimes it is fear that keeps us back from taking a different path.
Now what is a possibility?
Possibility and Opportunity are two sides to the same coin. When you are open to opportunity the possibilities are endless, vice versa, when you are open to possibilities, the opportunities are endless. More often than not we tend to just see one side of the road and not realising that if you turn your head there is another side of the same road. You just to need to take note and be aware of those possibilities.
How can we make space for those possibilities?
Look at what surrounds you, make mental notes of what takes up your space both mentally and physically, even materially. If something serves no purpose in your life, let it go. Make space for something new. De-cluttering is always a good start. Let go of all the broken things – if you can’t re-purpose an item, give it away to someone who will appreciate it. Your junk could sometimes be someone else’s treasure.
It is sometimes difficult to start something new. Acknowledge your fear and just start. It is surprising to see that the something you fear, is not that fearsome in the end. (I had this fear of painting, especially when you see everyone else being so good, I stopped being my own critic and started painting. I love it, should I keep on thinking I’m not that good I would never do something I love, enjoy, brings me peace and loads of happiness and fulfilment. In the end I’m doing it for myself and my own enjoyment. I even love sharing my mistakes, shows we all are not perfect, we just love what we do.)
We often complain so much about things we don’t want, we fail to make space for the possibilities and opportunities of things that we do want to come our way. All you need to do is change your focus a bit, you will be surprised to see what your choices and the possibilities could be.
Do something that you’ve always put on the backburner, the one thing that you’re always making excuses about. For me it was starting this blog, always thought about it, until I decided to just do it. It makes me happy, I have all these thoughts I want to share, I’m all for uplifting and empowering people, I’m all for getting us all to know ourselves in that when we get to create, we create with this fearlessness from within ourselves to express it outwards and bringing joy to others. Give yourself a nudge in the right direction and open yourself up to the possibility of starting something new.
Learn a new course, Coursera has all these MOOCS where you can learn numerous subjects, believe me, there would be one that totally would interest you.
Attend networking events. If there isn’t any, start your own. You’ll be surprised who you meet and the lasting friendships you make.
Connect with people, through these connections you get to know people, these people get to know you and you’ll be surprised how friendships develop.
Create your own events. I created our creative evenings. The space and place for all our friends to connect creatively and to just sit back make something special together with loads of fun and laughter. It just takes you to get started, be open to the possibility of connections and friendships, they are the best to have through everything.
Here are just a few thoughts on opening yourself up to possibilities and opportunities and not just sit back and close yourself up because of fear. Let go and let be – become a possibilitarian.
